The Destroyer - SHIVA

He is my favourite among all. One amongst the holy trinity in Hinduism, SHIVA is considered to be the destroyer and fierce when angry. He is the conqueror of death. His mahamritunjaya mantra given in the Rig Veda is chanted to free one from death and diseases.

He is known for his fearsome forms which he took while battling evil and killing them.
He took a total of 24 forms. He is also known for his raging dance form TANDAV to show his anger. Though considered violent, he is worshipped by Hindus with full dedication because he is the only god among all the gods who can be made happy with least rituals and sacrifices but with pure dedication. He is the LORD OF YOGA and a YOGI (practitioner of yoga).

He is depicted with a TRISHUL (trident) as his main weapon and a third eye on his forehead with long hair. He only wears the hide of a Tiger with his body covered with the ash of deads. He holds river GANGA in his hair He also hold a DAMRU (musical instrument) and a Snake around his neck which represents his power against death and poison. He mounts on NANDI (Bull) and his abode is MOUNT KAILASH. He lives with his wife PARVATI known for his form Goddess Durga which also killed many evils is worshipped in many parts of India. Shiva had two sons with Parvati namely Ganesha & Kartikeya.
